Case Study: Lois Skilleter of Earthereal of Yorkshire

healer and therapist insurance - case study - Lois Skilleter of Earthereal of Yorkshire

Earthereal of Yorkshire is the trading name for Lois Skilleter, a long time teacher, healer and therapist based in Ilkley. Lois was drawn to teaching early, and initially taught primary and early years children. She also supported children with additional needs in mainstream education long before she became a therapist. Her route to healing and therapy is quite an unusual one.

As well as being an instinctive carer, Lois is naturally creative too. What began as a hobby making her own jewellery, developed into a business, and from this she became interested in Crystal Therapy and later in other healing types too. She trained in Japanese style Usui Reiki to Master level in 2009, which in turn brought her back to teaching again, passing on the healing methodology to new therapy students. From this introduction to therapy and teaching, Lois studied more, acquiring qualifications in different Massage types (Ayurvedic, Indian Head, Thai, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Swedish and Hot Stones) and expanding her understanding of Meditation.

The relationship between Earthereal of Yorkshire and Wellbeing Insurance developed apace following the closure of the Institute of Professional Therapists International (IPTI) in 2020

Over the last 10 -15 years, Lois has used her teaching skills to set up a variety of training courses in massage, healing, and meditation. Teaching remains the main emphasis of her work, passing on her knowledge and experience first hand to others. Lois enjoys working with carers and parents as well as with her students. She particularly likes working one to one, as this enables more immediate interaction and facilitates getting to know the student really well, who can then absorb far more in the time spent together. However, courses can also be delivered in a class format and depending upon the subject, online too.

The Covid 19 pandemic hit a lot of therapist’s businesses hard during lockdown and being able to continue working online where possible, helped some people keep going when others had to shut down completely. Lois was in the former camp and was grateful that Wellbeing Insurance could provide the necessary protection she needed for working online.

The relationship between Earthereal of Yorkshire and Wellbeing Insurance developed apace following the closure of the Institute of Professional Therapists International (IPTI) in 2020. Lois needed approval for new courses in order that her graduates could obtain therapy insurance for themselves and Wellbeing Insurance were instrumental in advising and supporting this process.

Wellbeing Insurance are very pleased to be supporting Lois and Earthereal of Yorkshire with the essential Malpractice and Public Liability insurance she needs for her Therapy, Teaching and Training activities, conducted both in person and online. This is a clear example of ‘caring for the carer’ as she trains the next generation of healers and therapists.
